MommyCon Philly 2013

I had the fabulous last-minute opportunity to attend MommyCon Philly! For those of you unfamiliar with MommyCon, here is a summary from their website:

"MommyCon is a boutique style convention dedicated to bringing modern parents and mothers-to-be together. Our focus is on natural and organic parenting methods and timeless tidbits as we journey through parenthood together. Our seminars and workshops include; babywearing, birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, car seat safety, natural health and medicine, baby gear, childproofing and so much more! We end our day with amazing giveaways and each attendee gets a gift bag from our sponsors."

I had a great time! Some of the highlights from the day were hearing January from Birth Without Fear blog.  She shared her various personal birth stories and shared encouragement for all moms about birth. Favorite quote from her? "Vaginas DO open, babies come out!" We all need the reminder that WE CAN BIRTH OUR BABIES!

Another highlight of the day was hearing Jessica from The Leaky Boob.

Jessica's passion was obvious as she spoke on Normalizing Breastfeeding in our culture. She is such an amazing, engaging speaker. I could have listened to her speak all day!

And finally, Jamie (TheBabyGuyNYC) presented the giveaways.

They had TONS of giveaways, from car seats, strollers, baby carriers to crib mattresses!  Too bad I walked away empty-handed! Big Bummer!

I had the chance to spend the day at MommyCon with Wendy from ABC's and Garden Peas. Oh, and her precious baby girl! (You can read her recap of MommyCon here.)

My personal thoughts for improvements: More swag! The gift bags for those of us with regular admission were pretty skimpy. Now, for those people who bought VIP tickets... they were in LUCK with TONS of free swag! Baby carriers galore! But for those of us regular folks, I walked away basically with a few small samples.

I would have also loved to see more vendors selling a bigger variety of mommy and baby products. I would have loved to bring back to you tons of new and awesome baby products that I discovered at MommyCon. But they just didn't have that.

Overall, it was a good day with mommies, babies, giveaways, and speakers. It was a great way to connect with other moms and dads who love babywearing, breastfeeding, cloth diapers, and, well, really parents of all kinds.
